Singapore PM Lee Leads a 5-Day Delegation to India, including a 2-day Stay in Rajasthan

Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, is set to land in India for a 5-day trip with which, he intends to strengthen bilateral ties between Indian and Singapore in specific areas like trade, investment, etc. He was especially invited by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this reason, as revealed by Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday, October 3. In past, he had visited India once, during the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit organized in the month of December, 2012. For his upcoming visit, he will be accompanied by wife Ho Ching, and a few key Ministers and senior officials from Singapore.

Recently, the PMO issued a public statement regarding his stay in India. According to the sources, Lee’s visit to India would last for 5 days. He’ll be spending the first 3 days in New Delhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his host. Both the ministers shall bond over lunch. They’ll be discussing on important issues to improve pre-existing trade and cultural relations between both the countries. In this regard, both the Prime Ministers will sign 3 MOUs marking their countries’ cooperation skills development, in industrial property as well as the establishment of a ‘North East Skills Centre’ to extend benefits to the people of Assam.

In the remaining two days of his visit, October 5 and 6 to be specific, PM Lee and his wife are planning to spend quality time in the beautiful city of Udaipur, Rajasthan. During his stay in Udaipur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje plans to exchange a word with Lee in a luncheon. Lee will also be attending the inauguration ceremony of ‘Centre of Excellence for Tourism Training’ , which is a part of the ‘Skills development collaboration’, a clause under the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership signed by both the countries last November.

His visit denotes the starting of happy times in Rajasthan, considering that both Singapore and Rajasthan share a mutually beneficial relationship in terms of trade and tourism. Improved relationship between the aforesaid parties would lead to ample employment opportunities (specifically in the tourism sector) for natives of Rajasthan.

Moreover, PM Lee will supervise the signing of an ‘MoU’ between Government of Rajasthan and Singapore’s International Enterprise, regarding mutual cooperation on tourism and urban sectors. Additionally, both the parties will be signing an agreement on ‘Capacity Building Programme’ (pertaining to tourism and hospitality sectors). This is going to be another feather in Rajasthan Government’s already swarming cap! Kudos to BJP, especially Raje for using this opportunity in a clever manner.
