Actor Randeep Hooda has undoubtedly proved his excellent acting skills with great movies like Highway, Sarabjit etc. After proving his mettle yet again and acquiring critical acclaim for the biopic ‘Sarbjit’, the Highway actor Randeep Hooda is now all set to play Havaldar Ishar Singh in his upcoming bollywood flick- the period action-drama, ‘Saragarhi’.The movie directed by Rajkumar Santoshi is based on the events of the historic battle of Saragarhi, and Randeep Would be seen playing the role of a military commander of the 36th Sikhs.
Randeep Hooda is known for his effortless acting and the way he blends into any role that he takes up. His acting brings about real characters to life on reel with much composure and self confidence that he puts into the role. Following his own league of biopic and class acting, the actor is now set to present himself in a new avatar. For ‘Saragarhi’, he will undergo demanding preparations for his role as the Sikh soldier.
CEO, Wave Cinemas, Rahul Mittra, said, “For the next month-and-a-half, Randeep will be studying Sikh history under a guru, learning sword fighting and shooting with vintage rifles. He is already a master of horse riding and has been visiting the stables more often in the last few weeks. He has the body language of a warrior and he will be beefing up to resemble Ishar Singh. He has already started growing out his hair and beard.”
”Taking care of the sentiments of the Sikh community is of utmost importance and Randeep is extremely serious about the prep. Being a Sikh soldier means embracing calmness and pure forms of warfare. There can be no frivolous behaviour and Randeep has completely submerged himself into the part,” Mittra added.

‘Saragarhi’ the movie revolves around the events that happened around 12th September 1897. During this time more than 10,000 Afgans of the Orakzai tribesmen in India attacked a British Indian contingent which also included 21 Sikhs. The Sikhs were stationed at an army post in the North-West Frontier Province, now known as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistann. Ishar Singh suffered severe wounds during the battle, but refused to surrender and continued fighting till his death.
Later, the British Parliament posthumously in recognition of his supreme sacrifice awarded him the Indian Order of Merit. Two Saragarhi Gurudwaras were also built to honour the soldiers.
The mahurat shot which will set the beginning of the movie shooting, will take place with Randeep at the Saragarhi Gurudwara in Amritsar on September 12.
