In India, issues like maternal mortality and complications related to pregnancy, are losing their pace but still these matters will always be delicate and serous until and unless they are exterminated. Seeing their prevalent negative consequences the urge to curtail them has become a serious issue. Addressing which, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this Sunday has announced a new health scheme for pregnant women. It is called Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan.

It was during the 22nd session of Man Ki Baat, when this new announcement was made and adding to its emphasis, PM Modi addressed the media saying,

“We have started the Prime Minister’s Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, under which a free check-up will be given to pregnant women on the 9th of every month in government health centers. Thousands of doctors have heeded to my request for this, but in a big country like India, lakhs of doctors should join the campaign.”

Calling onto more doctors to join this new and positive mission, PM Modi has asked their cooperation to provide free medical care to all the pregnant females in their respective areas. Every government hospital’s doctor will be given proper instructions so that welfare of pregnant women of the country can be given the attention and care it needs.

According to World Bank data, our country’s maternal mortality rate in the year 2015 was 174, which was earlier 556 when recorded in the year 1990. But this is not sufficient, and PM’s new scheme Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan can be known as the new move towards eradication of maternal mortality from the root itself.

During the same event, PM Modi addressed current and forthcoming topics like Rio Olympics 2016, changes in climate, floods in the country, and tree plantation campaigns by Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. PM Modi’s appreciation for these two states was quite evident as the former has successfully planted 25 lakh trees till now and the latter is working to bring forth an increase of 70% in its green lands.
