Facebook’s Free Basics app provided some internet services for the users of course including Facebook but did not take in everything on the internet world. Facebook CEO came with this with w a motive of connecting the people who are not connected because they could not afford the data plans offered by the telecom companies. But eventually the TRAI rejected the Facebook’s Free Basics App.
After the rejection a lot of experts including the CEO himself took it to Facebook and twitter to express their view points and give comments on the TRAI’s decision. Lately leading venture capitalist Marc Andreessen took it to twitter and wrote, “Anti-colonialism has been economically catastrophic for the Indian people for decades. Why stop now.” He also wrote, “Another in a long line of economically suicidal decisions made by the Indian government against its own citizens.”
Isn’t it anti-Indian?
Ever since the tweets and Marc’s comments went viral, people have started making trolls and oppositions against not only Marc Andreessen but also against the Facebook’s Free Basics. It will not be much of a shock if people in the coming time started opposing Facebook itself or started quitting its use. Facebook is now matched up to the East India Company and people are afraid that Facebook too will soon overtake the market of India and it’s only for the benefit of Facebook and not for the users of the country. Their fear is making them feel that Facebook is ignorant of the Indian culture and is only thinking of the profit of the company.
Though the CEO of Facebook seemed disappointed on the tweets of Marc Andreessen and he took it to Facebook and said, “I want to respond to Marc Andreessen’s comments about India yesterday. I found the comments deeply upsetting, and they do not represent the way Facebook or I think at all,” but the Indian users seem to very upset on the issue.
Only time will tell what will happen next.
