Have you ever cringed thinking of toilets in Indian Railway trains? Was it always a courageous job to get up and use the stinking toilets which the foul yet real part of almost every train of our country? We understand that you have had bad experiences travelling in trains mainly because conditions of train toilets have literally gone to the bins. But like the effective measures to clean and renovate railway stations is gearing good pace, similarly, a new environment free technique will soon be seen used in Indian trains. Rajya Sabha informed the public through its media channels that “Railways have developed a new vacuum toilet like the ones in airplanes and these will be introduced soon.”
Finally Railways develop new vacuum toilet and it will be first of its kind to be used in Indian railway trains. This idea surely has been adopted from the vacuumed toilet functionality of aircraft but once it’s operational in Indian trains, a major problem will be solved.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was also present during the media session on 5th August, and it was when the question hour gained momentum he went ahead and said that “Railways have developed the first-of-its-kind vacuum toilets as used in aircraft. The idea is to bring in vacuum- cum-bio toilets in trains soon. The only problem in vacuum toilets is that nothing can be discharged but collected.”
He further added that, “We are on track to convert almost all toilets into bio-toilets in railways. We have also launched a green corridor from Chennai where no human waste is thrown on tracks. That will also help improve the life of tracks as there will be no corrosion. We are working on taking this forward.”
Along with this new implementation, Suresh Prabhu talked about other innovations and new facilities which will be brought to action in the Indian Railway sector as well. One of them was the significant concern of food; it’s catering and enhancement in its quality.
Prabhu told the media that, “We are introducing e-catering and when anyone travels, one can now order food of his choice. We are handing over the entire catering to IRCTC as food quality provided by contractors cannot be monitored. IRCTC is now developing a modern ‘base kitchen’ and it will henceforth cater to all the food in the Railways.”.
With this the Railway Minister also had to say that “Railways has been in the process of constantly upgrading all coaches and conducting periodic overhaul. We have already asked officials to prepare a plan to revamp the sick units of railways.
I myself am working to improve the quality of coaches going to the South, after deputy chairman P J Kurien.”
As he is well aware of the recurrent complaints coming from rail passengers travelling to Kerala and as the current head authority he has some rectification measures in mind.
