Much to the surprise of cricket fans, Shashank Manohar has furnished his resignation as ICC Chairman. Not only this, he has also laid out a resignation letter which engenders the letter operational on immediate basis.
If sources are to believed, Manohar has stepped down due to ‘personal reasons’. Manohar served for just eight months in charge and became the first independent Chairman of the game’s governing body.
He stepped in for a two year term that began with immediate effect after stepping down as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Shashank in a letter wrote: “I have tried to do my best and have tried to be fair and impartial in deciding matters in the functioning of the Board and in matters related to Member Boards along with the able support of all Directors.”
“However, for personal reasons it is not possible for me to hold the august office of ICC Chairman and hence I am tendering my resignation as Chairman with immediate effect. I take this opportunity to thank all the Directors, the Management and staff of ICC for supporting me wholeheartedly. I wish ICC all the very best and hope it achieves greater heights in future.”
ICC release said, “The ICC has confirmed it has received an email from Chairman Shashank Manohar tendering his resignation. The ICC Board will assess the situation and next steps before making a further announcement.”
Lately, the idea of resignation has been in full upswing across the country. Be it in politics or banking or now Cricket. It is hard to understand though, why a battery of back-to-back resignations are being witnessed in the country, amidst such a progressive environment.
From Raghuram Rajan resignation to the resignation of Manohar Parrikar and now resignation of Shashank Manohar, topmen are giving their resignation letters, while we are still guessing the prime reason behind it.
