Former India skipper Gautam Gambhir has expressed his intention to bear full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel martyred in the horrifying Maoists terror attack in Chhattisgarh’s south Sukma area on Monday.
The impressive cricketer who currently has his hands full with hectic schedule of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches took out time for the bereaved children. Gambhir said that the funding will be backed by Gautam Gambhir Foundation. He was also happy to inform that steps towards this initiative have already been taken.
Leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the cricketing series spelled out that he was shocked by the massacre.
Former opening batsman of Indian team expressed that the newspaper clippings of two mourning daughters and a grieving wife of CRPF personnel invoked hollowness in his heart.
Gambhir wrote in his column for Hindustan Times: “On Wednesday morning, I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One was saluting her martyred father while in the other picture, the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative.”
“The Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of these martyrs. My team has already started work on this and I shall soon share the progress we have made,” the charitable sportsman said.
Gambhir struck an analogy with a lost cricket match and loss of CRPF jawans. He said: “It is for the same reasons I love armed forces too, although the quantum of losing a dear one while serving the country can never ever be compared to losing a cricket match.”
Well, what is life if you don’t dedicate it for others? It is our desire to better lives of those serving us day and night, which sets us apart from the rest. Quite recently, action star Akshay Kumar also contributed towards army men by opening an app coupled with a website for the purpose of collecting funds for the martyr families.
