The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia was relieved of the Urban Development Portfolio on 21st July 2016. The department is now under the leadership of cabinet colleague Satyendra Jain. The sources reveal that such transfer has been done on the request of Manish Sisodia himself as he wants to focus completely on Education sector.
Also, it is reported that Manish Sisodiya would also have to concentrate on the ministerial and administration of Delhi in the absence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as he will be busy in the campaigning of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the states of Punjab, Gujarat, and Goa, where the elections are to scheduled next year. The deputy CM is already in the hold of about eleven ministerial departments including education, finance, planning, land and building, revenue, vigilance, services, administrative reforms, information technology, law and justice.
Satyendra Jain, who has now Urban Development responsibility on him already had some of the important portfolios naming Power, Home, PWD, Transport, Health, and Industries.
Urban Development is considered to be an important ministry as it monitors and inspects the work of municipal corporations and also the developments in the unauthorized colonies.
